ABS and Brake Lights On - Speedometer Not Working
My 2002 Ram 1500 4.7L with 70,000 just mysteriously had the ABS and Brake Lights come on and they stay on pemanantly. Also, my speedometer and odometer quit working at the same time. After some research, I came to the conclusion (I call it a conclusion but more like a guess) that the vehicle speed sensors are bad. I am in the process of changing the rear wheel speed sensor that is mounted on top of the differential to hopefully solve the brake and ABS light problem. I went to remove the other vehicle speedsensor that is mounted on the driver side of the tranny and it looks as if there are 2 of them, if I am pulling the correct sensors. Does this sound correct? If there are 2 how can I tell which is the bad one so that I can save myself $50 instead of replacing them both?Any guidance is appreciated. Thanks, Ken

Just finished changing the rear wheel speed sensor and what do you know, it didn't solve the problem. ABS and brake light is still on. Also, Iforgot to mention that the air bag and seat belt lights are also on. My side view mirror defrosters and a/c do not work either. I am thinking an electrical or computer malfunction somewhere. Anybody else ever experience this?
You need to get a scanner plugged into this vechile, not just guess at the problem. I had a truck do this the other day and it was missing a power feed to the abs module. It was an internal fault in the IPM.
I finally had to break down and take my truck to the dealership for repair. The Power Distribution Supply was corroded and needs replaced. There is a national back order on the part with a 12 day wait. Sounds like this is a common problem with the vehicle then, although I would wonder how a vehicle that is 6 yrs old and only 70K miles would have parts corroding away already. Just thought I would post in case anybody had this problem or was wondering the cause.
