Default High voltage question

I have a new '08 ram. Plugging in a cell phone charger, radar detector or GPS into the powerplug causes the devices fuse to blow, or failure to operate with "warnings". I decided to test voltage and found that the plugs have between 15-16V when running. I proceeded to check other 12V lines like to the radio and overhead console and got similar readings.

Anyone experience something like this? I'm hoping it might be something simple, or is it a trip to the dealer?

That voltage is a bit high. Normally should not be more than about 14.2 VDC. Not out of the range tolerance of the gadgets, I would think. What voltage do you get at the battery, and what are you using to measure this?

15-16 volts tends to be a bit high. Usually I like to see between 13.8 and 14.4 with my radio equipment. Sounds like the voltage regulator in your alternator isn't doing its job correctly.

Yeah, i just tested mine and got 13.2-14.2. I never have had any problmes in that range, i run my radar/gps off them. The one in the dash seems to be consistantly higher than the one in my center console that i run the radar detector off of.

15 is considered the high limit for the charging system.

Sounds like a bad regulator, like said.
