Default Rear Diff Service

ok this may have been touched on before, but my laptop is running slow so i cant search right now.

I am due for my rear diff service. I plan on doing it myself. I already have the LSD additive.
What grade of oil should I use, and can anyone recommend a brand?

also, is a gasket required once i crack the factory case?

Gasket or RTV is OK. I've used both, I don't think one is better than the other, although if you don't like the idea of having to scrape off the old sealant, go with the gasket...

Side note: I did the front & rear diffs on my Grand Cherokee along with engine oil and used Royal Purple all around about three weeks ago. Always been a full synth. guy, but hadn't tried the purple stuff till now. It was $7.99 a quart for the engine oil, but buy one get one free special, so I gave it a shot. I don't know if it's the motor oil or the diffs or a combo, but I'm seeing a solid 2 mpg increase over dino oil in the diffs (I got it that way) and mobil one (Iput inwhen I bought it 5 months ago) in the crank...

Was the weight of the oil changed in later years? My '03 wants 75w-140. Synthetic only.

no mike you're right, 75 140 in the rear 75 90 in front, you can use 110 for the front if you want. And use amsoil for the fluid and rtv is the best way to go, I dont even think you can get a gasket for the front (haven't checked online) the rear is a 9.25 and front is a 8.25 right? I know I'm 100% on the rear and about 90% for the front.
