MDS and Aftermarket Exhaust Clash? Warranty Issues? Is It True?

My buddy recently got a job at the dealership I bought my truck from. He has since told me that they've had some MDS failures come into the shop, all with aftermarket exhaust, and most on the 06 models. He has told me that Dodge and the dealership are trying to blame the failures on the aftermarket exhausts, saying that when the MDS engages, it needs the backpressure equivalent to that of the stock exhaust. He went into more specifics that went over my head (something about the lifters being overworked when engaging back to 8 cylinders from 4), but the main question is, is there any truth to this? He said the repair is somewhere in the $2200 range, and again the dealership is trying to get out of paying it under warranty.
He has been known to jerk my chain every once in a while, but this would be a pretty elaborate joke for him... So anyone else hearing this?? I would think that someone on the forums I frequent would've had one of these so-called failures, if it's common enough for my local dealership to have seen at least 5 cases (my friend says), however that's the first I've heard about it...

WOW, that would suck if it is comes out to be true. By the way you say it, it seems logical, but since I am not a mechanical engineer and did not design the MDS Hemi, I wonder if there is any truth to this.

In just thinking about it, it doesnt make sense to me only because mopar sells a catback for it. Doesnt make me right BUT something to think about. Also considering how many people on here have trucks 1 and 2 years old with exhaust mods, I would have figured someone on here would have had problems by now and mentioned it. I guess 1 never knows for sure especially me lol
i thought warranty repair was paid by the manufacturer and not the dealer? the dealer simply performs the work, unless the warranty is sold by the dealership for specific use at the dealership
Sounds like BS to me. I would like to see some real info like invoices or work orders. Chrysler said awhile back they've had no MDS failures. I cannot imagine how back pressure or lack of would overwork the lifters. As I understand it MDS uses manifold pressure and engine RPM to turn the lifters off or on and the engine has no way of knowing what the exhaust back pressure would be. I have heard that aftermarket exhausts and MDS trucks don't sound so good when they go into the 4 cylinder mode. Just my .02

I have not seen a single MDS failure. I have not seen an aftermarket exhaust cause any failures of any kind. There are no TSB's on this subject. I don't believe that there are that many failures or I would have heard about it. If this were a problem, I would have heard about it through TSB's or through school or some route from Dodge.
Warranty repairs are paid for in the end by Dodge, but Dodge can deciede to not reimburse the dealer for repairs if they don't deem the repairs unnecessary or deem that the problem was caused by un-approved modifications..The dealer has to pay for the parts and the tech's salary up front and wait for reimbursment from Dodge but Dodge can deciede that they are not going to reimburse the dealer and the dealer has to eat the repair that should have been paid for by Dodge or the owner of the vehicle...

Sounds like BS to me. I haven't heard about this anywhere else either.
