Stalling Problem
Hi. This forum is awesome. This is my first post and I'm looking for some help. I just bought a 2005 Ram 1500 4WD and it keeps stalling. It has been back to the dealership 3 times. They hooked it up to the computer and no codes come up at all. My wife took it in last Thursday and they said that they turned up the idle and that should solve the problem. Well, as she was driving home it stalled, not once but twice. I took it out on Friday and it did the same thing. Has anybody any idea what the problem could be? Thank you for any ideas or information regarding this.
Interesting . . . . You would think that after 3 years of complaints about the stalling problem DC would have solved it by now. Mine never stalled until I got the 04 Tow/Haul Tranny FLASH. Now it stalls occassionally when shifting into Reverse and it only happens on start-up when cold. However, what I gained by getting the FLASH far outweigh an occassional stall.
I took a trip last week from Prospect, TN to West Palm Beach, FL. 95% of the trip was Interstate and was mostly driven at 80 mph. I got mixed milege results based on the brand of gas and not grade. I always run 89 octane. Going down I got around 15.6 mph on Chevron. Whenever I filled up with AMOCO Silver (I thought this was the best gas made), I got 2 mpg worse with the same driving conditions.
I also burned about 1/2 quart of oil which doesn't bother me as I am running Amsoil 5W-20. I expect it to burn some oil at 80 mph for almost 2,000 miles. I've got about 13K miles on the truck.
Sorry you are having the stalling problem but it is a common problem. What you have to be careful of is when you are trying to cross a major highway and it stalls before you get across. That always worries me. I don't think it has happened to anyone but this stalling problem is eventually going to get someone killed. Sounds like you have a truck that stalls more than most. I thought all the problems were fixed in the '05's but maybe not. I count my blessings every day that I haven't busted a valve spring yet. There is hardly a day that goes by that you don't read about another Hemi with a broken valve spring. A weak valve spring can cause stalling if the valve only gets open and closed partially. Your stalling problem may be caused by a weak valve spring. It would be interesting to know if anyone with a broken valve spring had the stalling problem too.
Good Luck.
