Default LIFETIME WARRANTY Question

Hey guys I had a quick question. If I do my own oil changes on my truck, will it void the lifetime warranty on the truck? I am due for my first oil change pretty soon and I want to make sure.

Thanks in advanced!

No. Just keep your receipts.

I did my first oil change. But then found the dealer actually can do it cheaper. May want to check. Around here, a Hemi oil change with tire rotations are about $20.

Where in the world do you get the oil changed and what kind of oil do they use? I spend more than that on the oil alone, granted I use synthetic.

To answer the initial question, no it will not effect the warranty. I would keep the receipts, just in case they question anything down the road. To keep the warranty active, all you have to do is take it in for the 5 year inspection at no cost to you. You miss an inspection, that is where the warranty will be no more.

what will the dealer say about using synthetic with lets say 7000 mile intervals (never used synthetic so i don't know the recommended intervals)? will it be an issue not changing it at 3000?

Just keep your recipts and you are OK.

My dealer does an oil change and tire rotation for $17.95 with tax and the extra 2 qts it is less than $23.

I like changing my own oil but for that price I Cant beat that.

I asked my local dodge service manager all these same questions when I was having my bed cover instaled. He told me to keep my recipts, fill out my maintainance book, and staple the recipts for that maintainance to the page when i used them. I also asked about the synthetic oil lasting longer. He told me just to use conventional oil because you HAVE TOFOLLOW THE RECOMENDED SERVICE INTERVAL!! as indicated in your owners manual. If you read in there it says in severe situations to follow the 3000 mile interval and in "normal" conditions to change your oil at 6000 miles. It does say, and he showed me that "UNDER NO CIRCUMSTACE SHOULD YOUR OIL CHANGE INTERVAL EXCEED 6000 MILES". It also says that failure to follow the correct service scheduale is also your fault. Look in your book, and maybe call your dealership but Im doing exactly what he said since thats the guy who is going to make the call weather a repair I need further down the road is warrentee or me fliping the bill.

Apparently in truck country(texas). All the dealers charge between $18-$20 +tax and disposal fee. You get the mopar filter and I assume its standard 5w20.
My first oil change cost me $2.50 for the filter and $13 for the oil from wawamart, total of about $16 with tax, then I have to take my time and crawl under then dispose of it. The $4 extra for no fuss, no hassle is worth it!

Might depend on the dealer. The ones here would deny your warranty for failing to follow the maintenance schedule. The was an example of some yahoo at 50K needing something covered under warranty. He used synthetic every 20K so only did 2 oil changes and only had the proof of those two. The schedule said every 5K, so he needed to show proof he did it 10 times, not 2! I heard him arguing that the oil company said their oil was good for that long, so he was told to send the bill to the oil company! Can't remember what brand it was, but it was a popular one... I left before it all ended
