Looking to buy a Quad cab - your thoughts
The warrantee issue is one thing that I struggle with. A 2005 no matter how low the mileage is has no warantee from the dealer. A 2008 has a nice warrantee and of course is new. I am looking at a difference of 5-10k for new. That has me wondering.
Is that difference worth the risk for shouldering the cost of repairs, if any, for the next three years?

Buying a low mileage/recent model vehicle is almost always better financially, though the advantages of buying used are decreased when you hold on to a vehicle for a long time. If your expectation is to drive your next purchase for a fair number of years than buying new may not be a bad idea, plus there are some advantages to buying new right now. The unlimited power train warranty and the availability of the 300 HP 4.7 are worth considering, in addition interest rates on a new vehicle are likely to be lower and finally with a really soft market you're in a good position to negotiate a good deal. All things to consider.
for gas mileage, i had a 2006 ram v6 and now a 2007 ram 5.7L HEMI. same gas mileage. so im assuming that the HEMI will have about the same mpg as the 4.7L too. the ram has plenty of seating space for my and my fam. even i can sit in the back comfortably and im 6ft 220. (ive been running a lot more than lifitng weights so i lost some weight[:@]) but if i were you, id wait till the 2009 rams come out. grab one of those HEMI's and whoop anything out on the road. with chrysler's situation, you can get some good discounts even on brand new 2009's. you can find a nice 2009 for cheap with the HEMI and quad cab 4x2. good luck!
I just went to the (Ford) dealer and we took the '05 SLT QC out for a spin. The truck is in absolutely MINT condition inside and out. Not one nick, scratch or ding. Looking under the hood was the same. This is one clean truck and with (now) just under 5600 miles. Never smoked in and not one flaw inside. Speaking of the inside, it sure is immense compared to my Dakota.
The "no dicker sticker" is firm at $19,950 so the only negotiation would be for the trade-in of my '96 Dakota (61K).
The truck is a local trade as seen on the autocheck.dealersuite.com (carfax?) report that the sales guy gave me upon request.
I am thinking seriously on this one.
If the truck was licensed in May '05 (built late '04) wouldn't there be some warrantee left? How do I find out if the original owner bought an extended warantee that I could transfer.
Additional comments?

ask the dealer about warranty. but remember this, some people on here purchased a truck from a different dealer (not dodge) and were told they had the warranty and when a problme arose, they 'didnt have a warranty.' so grab the vin, call dodge, make sure it still has a warranty. if it doesnt, ask the ford dealer what their warranties are and if its possible to get one on your truck. do you have a website of the dealer by any chance? maybe let us take a looksy at the ride?
