Default Modifications for better gas milage?

Hi Everyone, I was just curious if anyone has any sugestions on what one might do to try and better their gas milage for a 02' ram 1500 4.7L?........ I was told to try and run a hotter plug or try a cold air intake or even the tornado which also enhcnces the air intake to get better gas milage. Also a tonneu cover for the bed of your truck might work alittle as well. Can anyone give any sugestions on what they have heard or might be useing to better there gas milage?

Thanks, Aries

A hotter or colder plug is going to have minimal affect on fuel economy. The only cold air intake I would go with is an AirRam along with their AirStream (http://www.airram.com). It's a small company, but the owner really understands the computer system on the Dodge trucks. The tornado may not help at all, and may drop your mpg. I believe they were recently under investigation by the FTC. A tonneau cover may help ever so slightly - maybe 0.2 to 0.3 mpg if that.

The best thing I've seen is keep your tires proper inflated, aligned, and balanced. Avoid full throttle starts. Keep your accelerations steady and even. I am using the AirRam JetStream and did note that my highway fuel economy increased about 1.2 mpg.

Hey Guys,
Just to let you know that I've read at the Dodge Talk forums from a link that covers can actually decrease you MPG, along with front bug shields, camper shells.

Thought I would drop in my 2 cents from my hours of reading.

The first thing I did was intsall the K&N FIPK intake and it helped by about 1.2 mpg. I just intalled a Gibson Dual Sport Exhaust which should be good for another 1 mpg. The intake alone was a noticable difference in mpg and performance. I found that I didn't have to shif to a lower gear for some hills. Good Luck....

I just installed a 36" Chery Bomb glass pack and if I go on the road at 60 to 65 I can get 23 MPG but If I run up to 75 I only get around 18

You can get the best mileage if you run between 45 and 60 without a lot of fast starts and a lot of stopping.. If you don't you'll get 9.9 if you do you'll get around 15 to 16. that's not using cruise and turnpike driving and keeping the tires inflated to around 38 lbs cold.
