auburn 4.10
hey guys, im wondering if anyone has had problems with any auburn products. I snapped my stock c-clips about 9 months ago and im already on my second auburn 4.10. The first time it broke, the carrier spring housing broke in half. I picked up a pallet of sod for my parents today and after we had put it all out and i had sprayed off my truck, we went to pick up some more supplies and i started hearing a sound from the rear when im turning, sounds like a big creaking door sound, and im not gonna be happy with auburn if its the rear again. I can't think of anything else it could be, the pallet of sod dropped the suspension in the rear about 4" but it just doesnt sound like suspension. From what i've seen the aurburn gears are pretty popular among dodge owners. I dont rag my truck, its 2wd w/ the 5.7, CAI and exhaust. The only stress i put on the rear is when its raining and i usually get squirrely around corners. Just wondering if I'm the only one having problems. thanks ya'll
The term "Auburn 4.10" is a bit confusing to me. We all run Auburn LSD's. 4.10 would be the ring and pinion gear ratio. I was not even aware Auburn makes ring & pinions. Is it the LSD "Limited Slip Differential" you are having an issue with or is it your 4.10 ring & pinion gears?
I've only EVER seen one set of Auburn LSD's fail that wasn't due to a poor installation. For that matter, I've only seen two Detroit TruTrac's fail, period. So, if you are having multiple problems with your LSD, and it's not factory, then maybe it's time to have someone else do the work...

ya sorry, its the auburn lsd w/ 4.10 ring and pinion, but i bought it as a package from auburn. the last time it broke it was the carrier spring housing on the lsd, my mechanic said that auburn claimed they had no problems with them, but he has apparently had other mechanics have the same problem
Well like I said above, for the most part, Auburn's LSD's are flawless. I don't know anything about their ring & pinions because I didn't even know they made them.
However, if you search this or any other Dodge truck forum, better than half the guys who get aftermarket ring & pinions installed have issues with them, regardless of the manufacturer. R&P's are very hard to set up correctly and the Chrysler 9.25 is supposed to be harder than any other.
Almost every failed set of ring & pinions can be traced to a poor install. You'll read a post where someone says "Don't by Motive's, they whine like hell and mine only lasted me 4000 miles" and the next post says "Get Motive gears, no noise and I've had them for 30,000 miles and still perfect without even a lube change in that time". So I, and many others, say that with gears, it's ALL about the installation.
So, I still say, if you are having continous problems with the rear end, try another mechanic...

I would say it's the guy installing your ring and pinion/lsd. I have only had one problem with my Auburn unit and that was when I did the first fluid change I listened to the manufacturer that said it already had the limited slip additive, so when I didn't add any it made some weird noises when I made sharp turns. Well I drove straight to the auto parts store and bought some slip lock and stuck it in there in the parking lot, after that, no problems at all.
Find a reputable shop in your area that specializes in rear ends, I had mine done at a very well known shop in my area and I have had zero problems. These Auburn units are damn near bullet proof if you have a good mechanic installing them.
Hammer, I love my motive gears haha

i was kinda wondering about the lsd additive, my mechanic told me they use "auburn's factory gear oil" and it already has the additive in it. i asked last time it broke if i should put some additive in there and he said no, because if something goes wrong, they won't warrenty it...

Here is a link to their website, they are a manufacturer of Limited Slip Differentials, Spools and Lockers, but not Ring & Pinions of 4.10 or any other ratio...
