It very well might be... but now how do I help my lifted up mud machine switch into MDS mode on my long a$$ trip from nashville to new orleans. I know i can do some other things to help mpg but the MDS is already there and might help with just a toggle switch.

ya i know. i had a friend that had an f-150 with a V6...got worse mileage than hemi's. all the weight it had to push it had to work harder than a V8.

and with that being said....thats why the MDS only kicks in in very low strain situations.....it knows when it can kick it down a notch....if you ran in MDS all the time it would still get bad MPG because of the amount of force it had to put out to get the truck up to speed. i think the switch is a bad idea personally...however i didnt think of a light that lets you know its on..and thats a GREAT idea. dodge engineers should pick up on this post!

yeah light would be nice! but if you have exhaust, you should notice. but unfortunately for you, scott, you have a lift and stuff and im afraid that all the torque you need is v8 only, can use 4 at all even when cruising. you might catch a sound of it when gliding downhill without hitting the gas. like others said before, the MDS sounds 'bad.' but me, if i know im saving gas, i wouldnt mind. so listen for that 'bad' sound and see if its on.

The parameters for MDS to engage are there for a reason...i'm sure switching to 4 cylinders during higher engine loads could cause damage over time. You might be able to have the parameters adjusted through a tune but I wouldn't count on it.

oh and one more thing dude.......i know its nice to save money...who doesnt like that? but lets see.....you bought a truck.....bad on gas.....
you got it with the hemi......bad on gas
you put big tires and lifted it........hurts the gas even more.....
so i wouldnt be complaining, with the things you have, unfortunatly you cant complain IMO about gas....just a factor you have to live with. big ole lifted truck gas sucking hemi. i dont ever see myself buying a fuel efficient car therfore i just deal with gas prices. nothing i can do about it and its only gonna get worse. if you wanted something good on fuel id suggest buying a different vehicle.
