Default RE: Which 37in MT tire would you put on your Ram?

ORIGINAL: HammerZ71

Since you are bound a determined to put 37's on your 1500 and you've exhausted the subject countless times, I'll further spare you any opinions I have on that. So, to answer your question, I have a question. Is the truck a daily driver or are you gonna use it on weekends to try to go where no man has gone before?

For a DD, I'd opt for the Toyo's from your list, or better yet a set of Fun Country II's. If it's a play toy then I'd get the Claws (and a couple spare CV joints)...
It's going to be a dd,but considering the mileage I am getting with my 285x70x17 Khomo AT I really don't want to go too much bigger. I am going to take your advise and go with the 35x12.5's. It will be better for me because I am only getting 12mpg babying an 05 QCSB 4x44.7 ram. I just put the 50series cat back flowmaster exhaust and it sounds good, but it seems like my MPG might be slightly lower. Probably also know that I love hearing the rumble. But I am thinking about just going with a 2in ready lift leveling kit and going with 35's. Probably the MTZ's, but roughcountry.com has a nice tire/wheel package that's 17x9 classic II Mick Thomp wheels with the 35x12.5x17 Baja Claw-Radials. How far down would those cut my MPG?

On the subject of Nitto's, I'm really kicking around the idea of trying out their Dune Grappler when I'm due for new tread.

Well the Dune Grapplers look pretty cool, but those Toyo's are pretty sweet. I am still considering those, but they weigh a ton!

Hammer that was a great post. It really helped my out. My goal is to eventually put new headers on it running true dual exhaust using a magnaflow cat and either an aero turbine or magnaflow 5x11 muffler.IMO, that would really increase my power and mileage. I think it would sound pretty rugged. And I am also putting in a AEM Brute Force CAI inMay and want to do 212x cams by next year. But I figuredwith the ready lift I would be able to afford the 35x12.5x17 tires and a nice 17x9 rim and with the savings over the suspension lift kit I would be ableto stay with the stock 3.93's and probably add aAuburn LSD. I would get the 4.56, but I will have alot of highway driving soon so Idon't needthat much low-end torque. The camsand true duals will compensate for that. I am just hoping that rough country makes aWheel/Tirecombo with the 315x70x17 MTZ's and the classic lock17x9wheels andthat TopGunsCustomz makes a 2.5in lift for an 05 4x4 QCSB Ram. But thanks for your help over the course of my new membership. I have learned alot.

Niether! You forgot Nitto Mud Grapplers!

The Loudest, Narliest Mud tires around!

You can hear them coming from 6 city blocks away! Now thats what a real mud tire sounds like!

X 2 These are what I am riding on too. Didn't vote until you put them up. First choice, for an even more awesome looking tire, is still the pit bulls.

I voted for the Mud Grapplers. They are an awesome MUD tire, they lookextremely good and agressive, but if you are worried about pricing, loudnessand longevity then they are not for you.

The Toyo M/T tire is a really good tire, last fairly well, are quiet and ride good, but are extremely expensive and do not perform nearly as well as the Mud Grapplers.

The Baja Claws look good, perform descent, and are fairly loud, butthey do not last very long and are also expensive.

I have not heard anything but good about the new KM2's, and from what I see they look good as well.

I have a few friends with the Cooper Stt's and they love them. Supposed to last a good while, they are a little cheaper, but they are about the same as the Toyos as far as performance goes.

It all depends on your personal preference, if you get into a fair amount of "hairy" off-road situations, and if you are willing to spend some major money.

Hankook MT's. They seem to work really well so far (2600 miles) and at $200/tire I'm not complaining....

The Mick Thomps radial claws should be a little better than a 40k plus tire. They make great, long lasting tires. Mick Thomp is actually produced by cooper tires which makes me wonder how the Cooper STT's really are. I am probably narrowing it down to the MTZ's and the STT's because those tires are going to last a really long time and give me great performance. The Toyo's are great tires but they weigh a ton and share a very common tread pattern with the STT's. So I am probably between the STT's and the MTZ's with possibly the BFG KM's close behind. No matter how you look at it I will still be going with the 35x12.5x17 tires, it's just a matter of which one.
