Rear end shaking real hard???
hi i just bought an 03 ram reg cab short bedless than three weeks ago. ive taken it offroadin for the first time yestarday and i notice some studdering or hard shaking in the rear. when i going up any kind of an incline like even just goin straight in 2wd, if the ground is sandy or dirt and the back wheels slip the whole bed and rear shake like crazy. for example i went from pavement to a dirt path still in two wheel and followed the trail around toit got where like sandy or lighter dirt even in mud it drove great but if the rear sunk in even a lil into the dirt and i hit the gas, the whole truck when crazy, shakin pretty hard bed and all.
even the four wheel shifter on the floor was moving back and forth pretty hard. i understand im driving offroad and that the truck will shake but i thought this was a little extremee
how do all you trucks react when they start to sink in dry dirt and you hit the gas/ and i dont mean do they pull right out, i mean do they shake or act funny

its called wheel hop and is common for most any vehicle with leaf spring suspension. the spring tends to flex/twist as traction is gained and forces the tire to jump to allow the spring to return to normal. tire goes up and back down, gets traction, does it again and again til you let off the throttle. imagine the axle trying to rotate the spring instead of the tire. makes the spring do this ~.better shocks help some, traction bars do also but have other bad habits. my 03 2500 4x4 is pretty bad. my 98 3500 dually didnt do it at all but it had major springs under it
