Default MDS Thoughts and Questions...

Alright, I have the MDS system on mine and I also have Magnaflow duals so the change is really noticable. I also notice how often it switches between 4 and 8 cylinders and that got me wondering... Does anyone know if that constant switching has any extra wear on the engine? Surely it must be more stressful on it than operating at full eight cylinders the whole time. Has the MDS even been out long enough for anyone to know if it affects engine durability and engine life??

MDS has been around for going on four years now. My 300C has only 29K on it, so it isn't a definitive test. From what I understand about MDS (which ain't a whole lot), all it does is disable a valve on four cylinders (exhaust or intake, I forget which). Lubrication remains the same, I'd guess there is slightly less heat generated, since the number of explosions is cut in half. My 300 still runs strong, doesn't smoke or use any oil. It is still truly a hoot to drive -- a 4,200# sedan that is "point an' shoot" in traffic and STILL gets better than 20 mpg at eighty plus. Many folks have WAY more miles than I, so I imagine they'll jump in.

the mds cuts out once more power is needed. 4 cylinders arent used by themselves when the pc notices that more power is needed. cars and trucks are tested 2-3 years prior to leaving the production line. this has been tested for a while already. since at least 2004. they wouldnt sell it if it were to be a huge problem.

I am new to the MDS so forgive me. How do you tell when it is on sound wise? I notice that when I am cruizing my exhaust note will drop like it shifted to a lower gear. Is that the MDS? I always thought it would make a higher pitched exhaust note since 4 cyl cars have a higher exhaust note than a 8 cyl.
