Default Programmer Ideas

Just bought a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 w/ a 5.7L hemi, bone stock. There's plenty of power but I just want a little more, actually I want a lot more for the best bang of my buck, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what applications they have with other parts and approx. what horsepower and torque they have. I'm not new to dodge trucks I had a 1996 dodge ram 1500 5.9L with some engine mods along with lifts and other custom stuff that cost alot. So terminology isn't a prob. Any ideas? and any posts are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The SuperChips 3815 is a great startingpoint. It makes a big difference in performance. It adds around 20 HP and a bit more than that in torque. It is a "plug and play" interface and updateable on line at the SC site. The SCT tuner makes more power and is custon programed to your mods, you get 3 tunes when you order the SCT, all custom tuned for your truck. Additional tunes are 50.00$ I think.

My advice to you would be to get a used SC3815 off Ebay to start with, after you add Headers, cam, gears, torque converter CAI, etc. sell your Superchip and get the SCT. Buying the SCT first will cost ya in the end when you have to get it updated for each mod. Hope this is what you were looking for And WELCOME to the Forum!

Agreed the Superchips is the way to go now. SCT will make a lot more power if it has the mods to work with, especially with a custom tune vs. SC's "canned" ones.
However, SCT is still working on the tranny enhancements that Superchips currently offers. I'm waiting for that to come out before making the jump. The SC really has me spoiled by the firmness of the shifts it offers...

At some point in the not too distant future, SCT will offer ALL the benefits of the Superchips, plus a lot more. Right now it offers a lot of nice things that Superchips wont even consider doing due to CARB issues, but with a couple years head start, there are still some desirable features the SC has that are yet to be offered by SCT...

Get one, but don't expect too much horsepower gains. 10-15 hp is about all you will see in certain areas.
Below is a comparison of Dyno runs before and after installing Superchips. Not much of a difference. I was disapointed.

There is a significant gainafter 5300 rpm's over stock.
Close up.

Now don't let this get you down. I would not trade my Flashpaq for anything. I love the Rev limiter, 140mph speed limiter, data logging, towing program,DTC error reading and clearing. There is an awsome difference in the way it shifts and you can control when it shifts from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. Plus it got rid of that annoying fart noise that the truck made when you shift from 1st to 2nd at WOT.

At the time, the only mod I had was an Aero-Turbine muffler and K&N drop in filter.

Another option for a tuner is the Bully Dog. It does everything that the superchips does and you can usually find it cheaper.
