12V power outlet and cig lighter
Hello All,
I am having problems with my cig lighter and 12v power outlet. checked both fuses (dash and under hood) and they are good. butfor some reason the outletsare not working. What could it be?
Help....... I need to have my inverter for my laptop for work.
Thanks in advance.

What year truck? Did they work yesterday/last week/last month? Sometimes a blown fuse isn't real obvious. Do you have access to a meter to read the continuity of the fuses?
oops sorry. its a 2001 2500 diesel. the cig lighter worked, 12v did not. plugged in my inverter to the cig lighter and when the air conditioner kicked on it blew my fuse for the lighter on the panel on the side of the dash, swapped it out and it still doesn't work. I have no meter to check it with. I looked under the dash and from what I can see it looks like a relay in the back of the 12v outlet? is that possible?
The fuse blew when the A/C "kicked on"? Most folks don't know the A/C compressor cycles on and off. If the A/C compressor is popping the fuse, someone's done a butcher-job on the electrical system. Is it possible to provide some pictures? There is normally no relay on the outlet. My suggestion is your inverter popped the fuse. What is the watt-rating on the inverter? Put in another fuse (same value or less, NEVER more (apologies to Edgar Allen Poe)) and see if it blows. Those are separate fuses, since one circuit is always live, the other only with the key. I had an '01 Ram. I don't remember an under-hood fuse panel, but that may be 'cause I never had to look.
