Ok. I went down a flooded road about a week ago. My 05 ram has been making a whinning sound since then. Last night I needed 4x4 so I shifted it in and the indicater light came on but no 4x4... I almost had to get pulled by a ford...lol.. thank god for good tires..lol
Anybody know what would cause that?? I crawled around under my truck for about an hour looking...

 

does your truck make a clunking sound when you drive it now too?

 

No clunking..Just the whinning.

 

Was it fully engaged? or just partially? it may not be too noticable but it's possible...

 

didn't engage at all.... just the light on the dash.I'm guessing something to do with the vacume swich but I don't know where to find it..

 

i thought newer trucks (like 97+) were all electric servo controlled, not vacume controlled

 

Do you have the lever or the ****? does the light flash or stay lit?

 

maybe it is electric. I'm not sure thats the problem.. I don't know where to look.. It has the shift lever. The 4x4 light comes on and stay's lit just like normal.. It's got me confused.. not like the older trucks where everything ran off linkage..

 

it sounds to me like electric servo to lock in the front axles hubs are not locking in, the 4x4 is probably working, but the front hubs arnt.

 

so how would I check that ?? and any idea about the whinning sound when the truck is running..that is all the time even in park. It gets louder as the rpm's pick up going down the road. This all started at the same time..This is why I was thinking they are the same problem...
