Trans go shift kit
I just bought a transgo shift kit for my ram hemi. It has an element that you solder onto a plug on the tranny. You are only suppose to put it on if you dont have a programmer. I dont have a programmer but i am planning to put one onsoon. My question is if i am planning to put a programmer on my truck, do i have to solder the element on? Or can i just not put it on? What does the element exactly do? Thanks.
This is just my two cents I have tryed Shift kits In 3 other cars and trucks in the past many years ago all three of them I end up trashing the Tranys.
I been told make sure you have a good trany to start with I don't know I was young a dumb when I did this stuff You may have better luck with shift kit than I did Just Heads Up Trany's cost big bucks now a days to replace If it is still under warrenty The shift kit will void it.
Oh yea Also from my young and dumb days dont use a shift kit in a 4X4 it's very hard on the transfer case, been there done that cost me a lot of money back then it cost more money now to fix a OH SH???t I just done F???ed up.
But I must admit It cool to be able to bark the tires and leaving rubber on the ground when shifting with a AutoTrans.

Raptor,
That element your talking about is nothing but a resistor. I had the Transgo shift kit put in mine and I really like it.
I have over 20,000 miles on it WITH a Flashpaq tuner and I have had no problems at all. All the talk about Superchips increasing the line pressure is bunk. The resistor is what raises the line pressure. The shift kit replaces a plate, puts in some bigger stronger springs and a few gaskets.Gadier (383Hemi) came up with an idea that you might be interested in. (Below)

This little mod allows you to remove the resistor if you want and plug it back in at will. I did it this way because after you install a shift kit, your computer needs to relearn the tranny. It takes 5 or 6 days (minimum) to do this and let me tell you, when it shifted into 2nd, I thought I was going through the windshield. This is normal, but scares the crap out of you. What I did was run it without the resistor in it until the computer re-learned the tranny with the new shift kit and started shifting normally again,THEN I plugged the resistor in.I had to wait a few more days again for the computer to learn it ,but I felt it was a good idea to do it this way.
You’re going to love it. If you drive normally, you won't even know it is there but when you pin it, it will snap your head back when it shifts from 1st to 2nd.
I wouldpay a professional install this kit, and I would get the kit that costs about $120.00, not the $40.00 one.

I have no idea but my 2nd gen has one on the APS transmission Wayne built for me and I like it but then again I've only had it for 2k miles or so. From what I've read shifts kits are a good idea as they make it shift faster so it creates less heat. Mine isn't super wild as it barely shifts any different unless I'm barely on the gas from 1st to 2nd it's a little harder. Otherwise it's hard to tell it's there just driving normally. If I'm driving normal I don't really notice that 1st to 2nd shift that much either.
I have no idea how the new type of trany's do but the old Turbo 350 400 and the 727 would light the tire up during shifting you have have you foot in to it but it was fun back in the day but at normal cruise it had a very firm shift to them.
I have been thought tires my dad use to get mad I use to burn them up, I did not understand back then but I do now I have pay for my family stuff now I in his shoe now.
He most likly laughing at me now he past away many years ago but I know he laughing at me saying son it you turn now.
