ovrhead console wrong temp/direction
hey i just ordered a overhead consle from ebay and got it today. i went to hook it up and it has the wrong direction and temp. is there a way to reset this?
since you got a new one im not sure...and im not sure why about the direction...but i had the temp misread and i just messed with some wires in the front bumper where i believe the sensor is and it was all fixed.
yes!!!! its F'ing weird, youve got to do something and then point your car in a direction, and then do something again and point your car in another direction, think you do this like 3 or 4 times... i believe i read it in the owners manual on how to calibrate your compass, and for the GED'ers mag north and true north are diff and mag north varies depening on where you are in the world...
To calibrate the compass manually proceed as follows:
(1) Turn the ignition switch to the On position. If
the compass/temperature data is not currently being
displayed, momentarily depress and release the C/T
push button to reach the compass/temperature display.
(2) Depress the RESET push button and hold the
button down until “CAL†appears in the display. This
takes about ten seconds, and appears about five seconds
after “VAR = XX†is displayed.
(3) Release the RESET push button.
(4) Drive the vehicle on a level surface, away from
large metal objects and power lines, through three or
more complete turns at between five and eight kilometers-
per-hour (three and five miles-per-hour) in
not less than 48 seconds. The “CAL†message will
disappear from the display to indicate that the compass
is now calibrated.
NOTE: If the “CAL†message remains in the display,
either there is excessive magnetism near the compass,
or the unit is faulty. Repeat the calibration
procedure one more time.
NOTE: If the wrong direction is still indicated in the
compass display, the area selected for calibration
may be too close to a strong magnetic field. Repeat
the calibration procedure in another location.

Automatic Compass Calibration
This compass is self-calibrating which eliminates the
need to manually set the compass. When the vehicle is
new, the compass may appear erratic and the CAL
symbol will be displayed.
After completing up to three 360° turns, with the vehicle
traveling less than 5 mph (8 km/h), in an area free from
large metal or metallic objects, the CAL symbol will turn
off and the compass will function normally.
Manual Compass Calibration
NOTE: To ensure proper compass calibration, make
sure the compass variance is properly set before manually
calibrating the compass.
If the compass appears erratic and the CAL symbol does
not appear, you must manually put the compass into the
“Calibration†mode.
Recalibrating The Compass
Turn on the ignition and set the display to “Compass/
Temperature.†Press and hold the RESET button to
change the display between VAR (compass variance) and
CAL (compass calibration) modes. When the CAL symbol
is displayed complete one 360° turn in an area free
from large metal objects or power lines. The CAL symbol
will turn off and the compass will function normally.
Compass Variance is the difference between magnetic
north and geographic north. In some areas of the country,
the difference between magnetic and geographic north is
great enough to cause the compass to give false readings.
If this occurs, the compass variance must be set according
to the Compass Variance Map.
NOTE: The default for the compass variance is zone 8.
To set the variance: Turn the ignition ON and set the
display to “Compass/Temperature.†Press and hold the
RESET button approximately five seconds. The last variance
zone number will be displayed. Press the STEP
button to select the new variance zone and press the
RESET button to resume normal operation.

The one that came on my 06 has said -40F only like 3 times, then after several minutes it slowly starts going to the correct temp.

There is a TSB out on that -40 degree temperature reading. Ibought my 2006 1500 Hemi used and whenever I reset the computer; mileage, distance, etc, the temperature went to -40 and then would eventually climb.
Took it to the dealer, with the TSB in hand, they flashed the computer and it hasn't happened again. It IS a known issue.
