rfe transmission woops!!
i was outside a few minutes ago planning to change my tranny fluid. i end up twisting 2 bolt heads off the pan. not thinking i loosened a bolt inside the transmission and i have no idea what the hell its for or if it is tightened at a spec. it is a fairly large bolt with a flathead in the middle of it right next to the spin on filter. any ideas on what it is tightened at and what its for? somebody please save my *** on this!!
Well, all I see in the manual that might match your description is the "cooler return bypass valve". It's on a direct line between the spin-on and the flat filter. I can't tell from the illustration if this is a bolt with a slotted head or it just looks like it. The location seems to match your picture. I see no reference to how much torque to put on it. Strictly a guess --I'd say finger-tight plus a quarter-turn. Good luck.
i have the haynes manual and i looked for that bolt and i could not find it, found pictures of it but nothing saying what it was. it is a slotted head. does anyone know by chance where to get free access to the alldata online or anyone that has alldata that could help me out?
UPDATE - drilled the two bolts out so that is good and went and bought all new bolts and mike is right the bolt is the cooler return bypass valve and it is tightened to 40 in-lbs.
