RE: Which one? 2005 5.7 Hemi or 4.7L
a 2006+ HEMI has the MDS which deactivates 4 cylinders at cruising speeds (under 70mph). in a few mpg threads on here, it seems as though the HEMI actually much better mpg than the 4.7L and the 3.7L. now since we have a HEMI, the mpg is either the same or better. i have no complaints about it. plus, why not have the extra 30hp? definitely go HEMI!

I get 18 on the highway and 13.5 on the streets (hand calc) when not towing a trailer, and 14.5 and 11 when I am with the Hemi. I have only made a few mods, such as CAI, Headers, Exhaust, and chip. Ebay has parts for our trucks galore, and the superchips was locked and $50 + $100 to unlock it. $150 beats $299-399, and that was the most noticable mod...still rockin the stock 17's tho, so that helps a little too!
And bones is right, huge rebates on new rams...especially when the 09's start hitting the lot, since it is a new gen. Spend some time parusing the forum and you will find almost everything you need to get your truck running like a top. I am very pleased with the performance of my Hemi!
MOPAR OR NO CAR!!!!!

I'm gonna say HEMI. I got 21.9 on a hundred mile freeway trip a couple of weeks ago. Around town it stays about 13. That's a lot of metal to get moving. Once you do get it going the gas mileage is pretty good. Mine is a 2007 1500 QC 2wd long bed auto with MDS.

Depends on the year you're talking about...if it's a 08+ you can't go wrong with either. The hemi is a pushrod engine and the 4.7 is OHC, it really depends on what you prefer. Modding the hemi internals is obviously cheaper and easier but the 4.7 is higher revving with less parts to break...so both have their strong points. A guy at work has a 08 QC 4.7 and it scoots pretty good..
Earlier 4.7's are underpowered in stock form...it would take some decent mods to get it up to the08+ 4.7 305+hp specs.
