Default Sand?

Has anyone else taken their ram through some deep, loose sand? I went out in the back of our base this weekend where they do all the drivers exams for tanks and other tracked vehicles. Some fun trails, lots of sand. I was pretty impressed at how well the truck did, even with only some Radial Rover RVXT's and stock rims. Didn't actually have to use 4x4 until I hit a big ole' pit of sand that was pretty deep. Truck sunk into about the bottom of the rims, but she still pulled out no problem as soon as I popped it into 4x4. I guess this is probably pretty normal, but it was my first time on anything more off roady than gravel, so it was neat for me.

Anyways, is there anything I should look out for with sand like that? Any problem areas on the truck that doesn't like the stuff? Haha other than the interior?

Nothing to look out for really. You'll find that the top Mud tires really suck in sand, they just tend to dig themselves in deeper, especially like in beach sand. The trick for sand is to have more of an All Terrain or even a soccer mom tire tread and air 'em down a bit...

yeah muds dont work well in sand. My buddy has muds and I have stockers and we'll go down 60 miles of beach, 40 of which is posted 4x4 only. He's needed to be pulled out by me. Tow trucks can cost a few thousand to get a ride on a flatbed when you break an axle, feel sorry when I see that, seen it 3 times actually. Its an easy place to make 50-200 bucks for a quick tow out. Most people won't pull out 4x2s cause its their own damn fault.

I have a 2006 Ram 4x4 Quad cab with 20 inch stock tires and I Do alot of Surf fishing in Delaware. The sand on our beach is very loose and if you don't air down your tires to 18 pounds you will get stuck. The stock tires do very well at 18 psi on the sand.

you know its funny all the Yankees say to deflate their tires, a few guys on here from jersey swear you have to deflate your tires yet I've never had issue, and everyone I know down here dont deflate their tires. So my thought is try running it at normal psi. And if your have issue deflate them, but you shouldnt need to do that at all.

i drive on the beach all the time in my ram with the stock tires. i've never aired them down and i was able to drive in 2x4 for the most part, just not as smoothly as in 4x4. i actually drove past someone who was stuck in their 4x4 SUV while i was in 2x4..... i laughed. i would spray down the underside of your truck anytime you play in the sand. i imagine some sand could get stuck in some rotating parts such as rotors or find their way into some wheel bearingsand grind away some material. also, for people like myself who play on the beach, mixed in with that sand is salt. and anyone who knows what salt can do to a vehicle will tell you it's no fun to see your truck get eaten. by the way tonyo, what base are you from? i'm in ft bragg when i'm not in iraq, which is hardly ever.

Since I live at the beach, I drive out there quite a bit. Never took the Ram, but I've seen them out there. As long as you take some air out of the tire, its all good. Sand is the main reason I didn't put mud tires on my Rubicon. I've gone up hill in soft sand without deflating the tires at one of my wheelin' spots. Now I carry an small air compressor with me at all times just in case...

...someone else needs it

In New Jersey....On Island Beach State Park is mandatory tolet air out of your tires before driving on th beach. Of the 1000's thatget permits there each year....EVERY SINGLE ONE lets air out of his tires. If you get stuck, and get caught by a Park Ranger with full pressure....there is a fine.
