Default Another exhaust question...

Just bought a used 2005 RAM 1500 Quad cab with Hemi. Dual exhaust, which I was told was a stock option, but I can't see how this variation is stock.

I am attaching 3 pics (moving from front to rear). Pic1 shows what I think is the cat (there is one on each side). Pic2 shows lookings toward the rear just after the "Y" (thought I would have found a muffler here). Pic3 continues that view to the rear, there is a ~12" long piece welded in just before it splits back into duals exiting the rear.

Can someone tell me what I have? Did someone just remove the muffler and clamp in pipe? This thing is LOUD. I want an agressive should and nice flow, but cabin noise on this setup is redic! Idle sounds OK...and on the highway it is almost tolerable when cruising around 2K RPM....but step on the gas and wow!

Thanks,

Joe

That thinglooks likea glasspack then split off into duals. No wonder its so loud, dump that and stuff a magnaflow or flowmaster 50HD series under it.

Do you have any pics of where it exits? On the '09 Rams there will be an option for factory dual exhaust. Welcome to DF.

I'd say there is no way that is factory.
You are correct, pic 1 shows one of your two cats. It does appear to be a glasspack at the rear. No wonder the thing is really loud. It appears it should be no problem to cut it out just before it and weld in a nice muffler. A single in/dual out would fit the bill perfectly so you'd have to do no (or next to no) modifications there.
I have the Flowmaster 50HD and like it a lot, nice rumble at idle, good sound while normal driving and wakes up a good bit when you get on it. You just have to decide how much sound you want or don't want...

I took a quick video to show the exhaust and give a sound. Sure sounds cooler outside of the truck :-) I'm assuming its a glasspack...I also don't see anything else in there (resinators?) but I'm not sure what they look like. After the pack, it just splits to duals out the rear. Dunno if I want to keep it, or maybe look at a Flowmaster or AT3030 (which seems pretty popular).
Thoughts?
