how often for oil change?
hometheatreman, that's just the old folks way, my granddaddy changed it evry 3,000 miles, my daddy changed it every 3,000 miles so I'm gonna change it every 3,000 miles.
As for 3 months, people dont drive 1,000 miles a month, most people drive more so 3 month would be more than 3,000 miles.
One last thing, why would toyota UK say change oil every 12,000 miles and toyota north america says every 3k? Because big oil want money, and they can't get it that way in Europe as they have fees for disposing oil as they dont condone wasteful behavior.

Our manual calls for 7k between oil changes based on your driving style. I normally run full Synthetic oil for about 5-6k before I change it. I think a lot has to do with your driving style and also how the oil looks when you change it. I think now a days with most synthetic blend oils, you are fine following the manufacturer's recomendation. My wife's Volvo calls for Oil changes at 7500 miles. Most European Vehicles call for the same or more. I think bottom line is dont let your oil sludge on your vehicle, use the correct viscocity , keep it topped off and dont exceed manufacturer's recomendation.
I've always done Mobil 1 with a Mobil 1 or Wix filter every 3000 miles. Overkill, I know, but for 14 years I lived in Georgia and was off road at least every weekend plus on just as many red clay dusty dirt roads as paved ones.
Now that I am in Florida (at least for a while) I don't off-road often at all not to mention almost all the roads are paved. I recently switched to Royal Purple and plan to change it every 6k. Makes it easier to remember when to rotate the tires as well, since I've always done that every 6k. Now I won't have to remember if I did it with the last oil change or not...

i have to agree with ramitone. i have good friends who work for oil manufacturers and they say that most, that's most, oil is good for 6 to 7000 miles without needing to be changed. they underrate their product for two reasons. one, it makes them more money. two, for the small chance that there product fails before therecommended "oil change" date. now, i don't want to even take a chance of a product failing so i'll change at about every 5,000 miles.
thanks mustang.
Makes sense, if you tell them 3k instead of 6k that brings em back twice as often, twice the money, more opps to tell them something else is wrong with the veh.
I can tell you with certainty that when I change at 10k it'll look better than anyone dead lizzards at 3k miles. It costs me about 60 bucks per oil change as I use the 25,000 mile amsoil, they also make a 35k mile one, and I use and amsoil filter, now sure I could stretch it to 15k or 25k but I figure 10k is fine. Besides, I'd rathery oil come out clean every 10k than dirty every 3k.
Come on hammer, come over to the darkside.

I'm going to be running amsoil and amsoil filter or mobil 1 or royal purple. either way all are rated for longer than 3000. I will still change my oil every 3k miles. I don't care if that's excessive and yadda yadda old folks way. My truck is my baby and pretty much the center of my world at this point since all I do is work, school, and drive my truck lol. so I'm going to do it every 3k miles. what does being a bit **** do to hurt the truck?.... nothing.
hey ramit which amsoil is it that's rated 25k. the one i was lookin at is 12k miles.

i did it every 2000. just to keep it easy on multiple vehicles...every even thousand, it gets changed. my last oil change i went synthetic...and now i jhave no idea. maybe i'll do 4k?
