I'm not sure if this is a stupid question or not but are all 4.7's a magnum? If they all aren't, how do you tell if yours is a magnum or not? [&:]

Thanks

i think magnum is just a designation for the engine. i think they are all magnums, just because that's what they're called. maybe someone will educate us both.

Magnum is the brand designation of the family of Chysler LA engines post 1992. Magnum is merly the moniker of the range of engines that have found their way into Dakotas and Rams. The 3.7L & 3.9L V6s are magnums, as well as the 4.7L, 5.2L, 5.9L, and even the 5.7L "hemi magnum" V8s. The 8.0L V10 that was available until 2003 is also a magnum brand engine, since it was, I believe, a derivative of the LA V8s.
