Default 04 w/ infinity sound, Metra interface?

so i'm on crutchfield looking for a new head unit, and crutchfield tells me that since I have an 04 with the Infinity 7 speaker I need a Metra CHTo-02 Interface to install a new stereo and use the factory amp, and it costs $160. What is this interface for? It's only required on the pacificas and 04-05 rams. what happens if I don't put this thing in? any ideas?

anyone ahve details on the factory system? how big an amp it has?

thanks guys

i'll look into that at work but i don't htinkyou need it. i think it's the interface for u connect and the factory steering wheel control.

it would be fantastic if i didn't need it, that saves me $120. i don't think i have uconnect, that's the cell phone thing right? don't care if I can't use that. and oh well if steering wheel controls go.

crutchfield says that I need the metra "to use factory amps".If a new head unit has a built in amp, i imagine I don't need the factory ones? or if the head unit amp is bigger than factory, than might as well bypass factory.

thanks for looking into it Ben. where do you work?

I would ask Crutchfield exactly what it does. From what I've heard, the Infinity system works quite a bit differently than a standard head unit because it has amps at the speakers. You don't want to have an amplified signal going to the speakers or you will blow them. That Metra may split the signal off unamplified and send it to the speakers that way. Crutchfield has always been extremely helpful when I've talked to them so I would give them a call.

I couldn't find this thread after i looked at work. dude no need. metra makes a 706502 harnesss that will work perfectly, i am having trouble finding an "amp integrate" harness. usually all they do is use RCA outputs of the head unit rather than the speaker wires so that way the factory amp doesn't ahve to deal with the high level inputs. won't be any more expensive.

I believe i know what that CHT02 harness may be tho. I think it's the metra XSVI harness. newer dodge/chrysler vehicles don't have an accessory 12v behind the radio. the radio is run off of 12v constant or something like that. and you have to find the other and run your own wire. the XSVI harnesses make it so that you don't have to do that it's basically a "smart harness" that has a brain that controls when the wire it provides is hot or cold. truly unnessasary wow sp lol.

oto answer ur question feejay iwork at roadshop at circuit city for like the pastten monthsor so

excuse my being super slow in the matter, but i want to get this in my head super clear. So to skip the CHT, all I have to do is give the head unit accessory power?? And I can use the 706502 harness just like I would with any other car and it will still use the factory amps just like normal?

^^ yea that's correct. it's a kinda weird harness. I think this harness here will work http://retailer.installationexcellen...8-4739773C5462

it's model number 706503. from what i can tell it's the exact same as a 706502 harness that is used on purrty much all chrysler vehicles from 02 and up. the difference is that it is set up to use the RCA outputs of the headunit and not the speaker leads coming out of the head unit harness. this keeps the factory amp happy because it isn't having to amp an already amped signal out of the head unit. keeps factory amp happy you stay happy. so i'd go with that.

Ok so i read the instruction on such on a CHT002 thing. it's really a harness for dumbasses. a lot of metras stuff is made so that all you do is pull the radio apart and it's a fairly plug and play install. the harness does a few things as well as having the RCA's to use the RCA outputs of the new headunit just like the 706503 which is all you need to "integrate" to the amp. the CHT is somewhat nice because it retains the RAP function. or retained accessory power. basically ya know how ur head unit stays on until you open the door when vehicle is off. that harness reatains that. IDK bout you but that IDC about lol. It makes life easier because on most vehicles 02 up in the chrylser lineup don't have an accessory 12v behind the radio so you either jump it to constant or you find your own and run wire. either works the same but i believe you lose the radio staying on until you open door. it will turn off with the car or until you turn key on or to acc. that's what that harness is
