Lamp Out Bell Dings Constantly
I purchased an used 2003 Quad Cab SLT recently. A week after I purchased it, I took it on a long trip. After awhile on the Interstate (always on the Interstate after about 30 minutes), the lamp out light starts blinking rapidly with the bell dinging constantly. The dashboard light blinksand the bell dinks on for about eight times. Then there is a pause for about two or three minutes. After the pause, it starts all over again. This can go on for about a hundred miles. My wife and I have lost our minds. It did the same thing on the return trip.
I took the truck immediately to the dealership. They said that they found a back-up light out and replaced it for free how generous. About two weeks later, the bell dinged once as I backed out of the garage. Otherwise, everything has been quiet but I had not been on the Interstate for a long time until this weekend.
The same time happened on the Interstate on our way to the beach. I wanted to kill something. When I got off the Interstate into stop-and-go traffic; the dinging quit.
On the way back from the beach, I tried an experiment. I did not use the cruise control and the bell did not ding. I do not know if it is a consequence or not.
Can someone help me?

Long story short is that a lot of 03 Rams have had this problem. Yes, it could be a light bulb like the dealer thought, but 99% of the time the driver's side light bar has a short. That will make the truck think a light bulb is out when it is not actually out. The light bar that goes bad is usually the driver's side, not sure why, but it is. Easy fix. It cost me $26 at the stealership for a new light bar. Basically take off your rear light lens and then you will see that all three light bulbs plug intot the light bar. That is the piece that is bad. Once I replaced mine the lamp out light quit flashing and the FREAKIN ding stopped. Hope that helps you

Are there other posts concerning this problem? I did a search and did not turn up any other posts. Maybe it was the way that I had it worded?
Thanks for the help. I am going to print off your reply and take it to the "stealership".
