I know that this is prolly common knowledge, but I've never heard an explanation of why a manual transmission does not have to have a cooler attatched to it. Does it not matter how hot it gets, or does it just not get as hot?

It doesnt get as hot. It has to do with the Hydraulics. When something is compressed ( gasses) or pressurized (fluids)it creates heat. An auto trans has a hydraulic pump in it to supply pressure to the clutches which allows them to apply. as well as fluid compression in the torque converter that produces heat. Manuel trannys are mechanical instead of hydraulic, the only heat produced it through friction, gear tooth to gear tooth, the same as rear ends. hope this explains it for you.
