Just bought '03 1500 - Alarm System ANNOYING...
After turning off and getting out of the truck (but not locking it), taking the keys with me, to pump gas, load the back, etc. and 5 or 10 minutes goes by, and I go to get back in – as soon as I open my door the F*!*NG alarm starts going off! I have no idea if this is a factory anti-theft device or an aftermarket one (as I’m not the original owner) – but it seems that the truck is arming itself after a given amount of time? This has me completely annoyed – is there a way to disarm this feature? I checked my owner’s manual, and found nothing about this. Please HELP!!!!!
Sounds like an aftermarket alarm with auto-arm. My old Dakota had that and it was the most annoying thing. I never found a way to prevent it other than disabling the alarm entirely with the override button. You would have to find out what kind of alarm system it is and have it programmed to not do that, if possible. Best bet is to take it to an alarm installer.
Thanks for the help. Turns out after I did a little investigating, it was an after-market anti-theft device. I located it, and completely disconnected all of its wiring (leaving them all intact). Problem solved. Thanks Dodge Forum!!!
yeah my old car had one it was made by Prestige... my dad borrowed the car once and went to put gas in it and left the keys in the car and closed the door and locked the keys in it lol... and i have done it b4 too which really sucks. i would try taking it to a car audio/ security shop and have them take a look at it they should be able to help you out
