Default 07 Powerwagon Oil Leak Update

This is an update to a previous post. To recap a little, I found a drip at the edge of the bell housing that looked like oil. This would reappear every 500-1000 miles. Removing the inspection cover to the trans revealed nothing as it did not seem to be from the rear main. The dealer could not find the leak either so he placed dye in the oil, and confirmed last month that it is engine oil rather than trans fluid.

Update: The truck was brought in Tuesday to have the leak repaired. The word las night is that the oil galley plugs were leaking, so they have ordered replacements. However, they also stated they found the transmission oil pump to be leaking and needing replacement. Apparently, they are having problems with this particular oil pump and are replacing with an entirely new type of pump - which is on back order with no word on availability until later today. To me this sounds like a silent recall on the pump though he would not admit it.

Where is the trans pump - is it in the bell housing or inside the transmission? Since I never found trans fluid leaking it makes me think this is a silent recall issue.

They are also still trying to find why on three occasions nothing happens when I try to start the engine. I turn the key and nothing. This last occured last November (9K miles ago). Last week I went to restart and stopping to eat and nothing. After a few minutes of trying, checking the battery terminals, and pounding the fuse box it started. Since last November, it will also suffer from long cranks when trying to start. The dealer thinks it may all be related to the starter switch, but they have not been able to recreate the problem. I hope I can get them to simply replace it.

FYI - I'm hearing today from the dealer the transmission pump is a silent recall issue - others may wish to ask about this.
