OEM Bug Shield Question
Do these really keep the crap off the hood and windshield? I've never had one on any of my vehicles before, and I hate cleaning the bugs off. So are they worth the $? I'm asking because the dealer has a special for $75 and if they work I want to get one.
I can't really say that they will in fact keep the bugs and rocks off your winshield and hood but they look sweet, the chrome ones that is. I would not go with the black ones, they look like crap on our trucks.
I've had one on every vehicle I've owned since '98. My ex and I took her Grand Cherokee on a vacation from our home in Ga. to where 90% of her family resided in a suburb of Chicago. The bugs were do bad on the windshield I went through all the washer fluid and it didn't help much. Had to stop numerous times at gas stations just to wash the windshield. Bought a smoke, Jeep OEM one from the dealer in her parents home town and installed it for the ride home. Made a night/day difference.
I have noticed that they work better at highway speeds, where I guess you need to create a strong enough air flow to carry bugs and other small, light debris over the vehicle...

well i bought mine, didnt come with the truck. i got the color matched one with the ram head on it. i love it. i bought it for looks, not function, but i can actually watch dragon flys head straight for my windhield and all of a sudden the get blown over the top of my truck. and for jstmahoneys question.....my mirrors are not affected
I wonder if we should call myth busters.
A bug deflector uses physics to protect your front-end from big, juicy bugs. It alters your vehicle's aerodynamic so that wind blows over the top of your cabin instead of into your windshield. When bugs fly towards your vehicle, they get picked up and carried away by this air current.
Because rocks and road debris are heavier than insects, they cannot be deflected by airflow alone. That's why bug deflectors are built tough to shield your hood and windshield from direct attacks. Incoming debris smacks into the deflector, ricochets off and leaves your paint unmarred. One thing to keep in mind is that taller bug deflectors deliver greater coverage and more protection.

Yeap and mine takes some smacks to bugs as well as deflecting them... I think a regular grill looks naked without it.. my buddy has a 07 same color as mine and he says mine looks so much better with it...
