Default V8 Hybrid???

Hey, ok so i have a question about my 2007 ram hemi sport, it has the 5.7L Hemi but i was wondering if it has the Hybrid V8? correct me if im wrong but i think thats what its called, its what ive heard other people call them anyways, the V8's that run on 4 cyl during highway cruising and kick into all 8 when they need the extra power,

Thanks, Trent

welcome to the forum.
Definitely not called a hybrid. Hybrid is when you have two or more different fuel systems on board.
It's called MDS, look it up on wiki, decent explanation there. If your truck is NOT a megacab, and it is a 1500, then yes you have it.

Call me old fashioned but I want my truck running on EVERY cylinder, ALL the time and the only fuel I'd want powering my truck that's not gas would be diesel...

Start mod'n it baby, with the right amount of mods you can get it right up there with the Hemi.
I've got the 4.7 H.O. in my Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, it comes stock with better intake, exhaust, cam, springs, different tune and about half dozen other upgrades. The thing smokes.
Hell, you can buy all the components that make the H.O. have like 40 hp & 45 ft/lbs. torque more than the standard 4.7 straight from Mopar if you wanted to.

Air Ram posts times with his 4.7 truck that will destroy all but the most modded Hemi's. Although he's on record admitting he can't touch mine, though...

Na, although I said I'd not have it (and I have an '04 so I don't) it's a pretty reliable system and does give you a tad better fuel economy.
The only issue that's a common complaint is that some aftermarket exhausts sound really bad when the system activates/de-activates...

yea i can understand that, seeing how the exhausts are most likely made to run on a V8 and not when its running on 4 cyl lol

MDS is not such a great idea in a truck, granted it works great in the charger which is 1/2 the mass of a Ram. The better idea is convert gas engines to golf carts, sutt down at red lights and start up when the light turns grean, more fluei s wasted in stop and go trafic.

The Ram has too much for 4 cy to efficanly move it...
