Question help a buddy

My neighbor has an 05 Ram 4x4. The passenger side front axle seal is leaking. I am wondering how the axle is romoved from the housing to replace that seal?

I would assume that I need to pop the cover on the dif and remove a "C" clip and then slide the axle out (of course after I have disconnected it from the hub). Does this sound right, or does the axle just slide in to the shaft housing like a FWD car?

You have to take off the hub nut, break loose the upper ball joint. Then you pull the knuckle down from the top, pull the shaft out of the bearings/knuckle, then pull it off the axle stub(differential) It is not too hard.
If you find you have to replace the axle stub side, take the thing to a mechanic or dealer, they make to tool specific for Dodge, to get the stub (diff) side off, but even with that tool, it's a bi*ch. Thank the lord I've not had to replace one yet, I've only busted shocks off road. A buddy of mine with an '03 destroyed one off-road when we were hog hunting in Ga. about three years ago. (Yes, he had 38" tires on 7" of lift - a big pet peeve of mine on IFS trucks) I had to winch him out.
We got the outer half shaft off in minutes, but could not budge the inner (stub) shaft. It ended up going to a buddy whose step dad owns a tire/auto center for replacement. Got him out to where a flat bed could get to him and washed my hands of it...
