porting my old heads?

Question porting my old heads?

I been thinking of taking my olds heads off that blown 5.7l i got an porting them myself now i done this on atvs an most small engines but i dont really know what im getting into i checked the heads the values look good it has a few bent push rods but im goin to get 6.1 springs an rods anyway but as far as porting it. alls i do is grind down the inside the ports right intake an the exhaust

You can port things youself, but a professional will have machines that can do it both quicker and more accuratly than some one with a drimmel tool or something similar.

reminded of this article. read the "cylinder head" and "flow capability" paragraphs, and see pics at bottom. they did exactly what you're wondering about doing, seemed to help a good bit

ive been thinking about doing this as well but not myself. its alot of money to do because i would not be doing any of it the work lol. my question is , is it worth it to cnc port them or not? cnc porting cost $500 more supposively but does just about the same thing as regular porting.
