Default PSI on 285/70/17 Cooper ATRs?

I know stock tire psi info is on the inner door panel but what happens when we change? I heard the numbers on the tire are higher then it should be..I heard something like it should be 10 psi lower then the max it reads on the tire? They are LT285/70/17 cooper ATR Load range D

Any help ...Thanks!

My max is 80, but I run 35 front and 32 rear. I drop them down to 22 when I go off road.

But for everyday use without a full load, you can keep them in the 30's
