Default Need help...tires!?!?!?!?

Need some help....I have a 2006 Dodge Ram Quad 2500 4x4. Going to need new tires by winter. I am looking at the Firestone Destination AT's in 285/70/17, going a bit bigger than the LT265/70/17's that came stock. Here is my delemma, can I get away with buying the P285/70/17's rather than the LT285/70/17's...I do not haul a trailer, just an occasional plywood board in the bed, thats it. Would it be OK (safe) to get the P's rather than the LT's?

Thanks!

As long as they fit the rim width, no problem.

I'm pretty sure my stock 20's were P's.
