Help with new Instrument Cluster
Thank you in advance for everyone taking the time to help me out with my problems. I own a 2004 Dodge Ram 4.7L Regular Cab and it has had its fair share of problems lol but I love my truck. I just need the insight of some Diy'ers and maybe a Tech or two and anyone who knows anything.
Just for everyones basis for my mods, I put new rims and tires, Upgraded to new Bilstein shocks and struts, lowered 2'' in front 4'' in the rear. New brakes and rotors.
I want to swap out my ugly standard Instrument cluster for the SRT 10 one. I also like the fact the speedo says 160 etc. The stealership said its plug and play and would work fine. They wont install it however because it has less miles then my old one. I then informed them of the Federal law where they put a sticker in the driver door panel with old mileage etc etc. They looked at me and had no idea what I was talking about. Only way they could help me is if I gave them the srt 10 cluster I paid 300.00 for as a core exchange, then buy a new one for 600.00; after i purchase the new cluster they will set the mileage and install it for 80.00.
I am having them install a custom woodgrain steering wheel for 45.00 so I dont think thats to bad; I really think its going to look perfect with the dash kit I already installed.
Also, I would like to track the truck to see top speed. Superchips doesnt have a programmer for my truck so I am looking for alternative ways. Ive heard that you can pay the dealer to use the starscan and change your tire/rim size; by changing the rim size, along with the speed rating of your tires, it will set the speed limiter higher automatically to mirror the speed rating reflecting the tires. I have a V rating max speed 149 MPH. Is this true or just a false statement going around?
Thanks again everyone.

I already took the dash off, took out all the screw but I cant seem to get the cluster over the steering wheel column. Its like the black piece that touches the plexiglass is obstructing me. Can I snap that piece out or is there another way??

we dont put stickers on the door anymore its programed in to the cluster (ccn) and your pcm will know that the mileage dont match. when we order a cluster the truck has to stay in the shop untill the new one is installed fed law. to get the cluster out easer drop the steering column. dont take the nuts all the way off just drop it some. If you remove the nuts all the way it will drop to the floor and you may dammage your brake light switch . if you remove the switch first your ok but the switchmay not worke again its a one time install type switch but some times the work anyway
