Default '08 1500 Change What to tow a 5th wheel

I am new to the truck world and have a '08 1500 mega cab SXT Hemi. I bought it to tow my max load 6900 lbs trailer. My question is, what would I have to do if in 3-4 years I wanted to tow a 5th Wheel. Change/add supension, tweak the motor ?

You'd have to buy a 2500. A 1500 just isn't the right truck for that. Sorry.

According to the Dodge website you (1500) can tow 9,100 if "properly" equiped. Check your vehicle specs for sure. I have read adding airbags is good for towing a 5er. I added them, but I am hauling a camper and pulling a 18 foot ski boat. Makes a big difference with 2,300 pounds on the back! I have seen many 1500's pulling 5ers. Not big ones, but they do it. Got to RV.net and ask around there. There are smarter people in there than me concerning 5er pulling.

Isn't the mega cab basically a 2500 anyway?

I missed that megacab part. That changes everything! You should be able to just treat it like a regular 2500 as far as towing.

After the suspension you would definitely want lower gears and bolt-ons...some brake upgrades wouldn't hurt either.

yes it is the downside is it still carries the GVWR and such of a 1500. only diff betweena 2500 and 1500 is the ratings. specs wise no different. as far as safety ur fine. the DOT could f u hardcore tho if ur towing more than the 1500 is rated for but still ok for a 2500.
