Noisey shift change
Hi all!
Can anyone help me? I own a 2002 1500 Dodge Ram 5.9l engine 4WD, crew cab extended bed truck. I recently noticed a loud banging noise when I shift between drive and reverse. Any ideas? I got underneath the truck tonight and turned the front prop shaft by hand and it makes a banging noise. I'm not sure if it's coming from the front differential or transfer case, there does not seem to be any play in the prop shaft itself or propshaft joints. The front driveshafts are free from play as well. The truck has done 75000 miles and it had all the transmission fluids changed and flushed by my local dealer at 60000 miles. I have not checked the levels since then. I do not do any off roading and just use the truck to get to work. I hardly use the 4 high or 4 low unless it is snowing. Tomorrow I will check the levels. Can anyone help? Are these trucks prone to transmission failures?
Thank you
Rich
