i am currently debadging my truck but the adhesive will not come off, I have tried reheating it and peeling it off but it won't budge..I have also tried going over it with extreme amounts of elbow grease with a sponge, but still nothing...how can I get this stuff off? any tips are greatly appreciated.

Hey bud, I was in the same boat you are in a couple weeks ago...I've debadged other cars before, but NEVER have I seen an adhesive as strong as on the Dodge vehicles! Get ready for a workout because it takes some serious patience, time, and elbow grease to get the badges off.

I used a full bottle of GooGone for removing the badges...(that's alot). The best bottle to get is the one with the little spatula on the cap, it works really well in getting the adhesive started.

After getting the actual badges off, I would use a fairly rough, clean rag and soak small parts of it at a time with GooGone, then go to town rubbing on the left over adhesive. This process I repeated upwards of 20 times per badge...each time, wearing off a little more of the black gunk.

When I was close to getting done with the adhesive, I would actually put a hard coat of wax over the gunk in order to dry up the area. Let it sit for awhile, and then GooGone the crap out of it. This seemed to work really well, but like I said...get ready for some achy hands, arms, and shoulders...

I have been reading a lot about guys having issues with debadging. I just recently bought a 2008 Ram and one of the first things I did was debadge. The only things I used were a plastic bondo spreader, 3m general purpose adhesive cleaner (08987), and polishing compound. No issues and no shadows, I also used goo gone on my 05 and it took forever this was much easier. If you get an edge started on the black tape use the speader to scrape it off then use the remover to eat at the acrylic part of the adhesive. Spray it on liberally and scrape away layers at a time with the bondo spreader. Good luck boys

I fiished debadging, i'm still a little sore, but I think i'll make it haha...I used a hairdryer to soften the adhesive, then I used carbuerator cleaner which ate away the adhesive, as soon as i got the adhesive off I washed that part of the truck incase the carb cleaner would try to ruin the paint because I'm not sure if that would or not. But it definitley took a lot of time, patience, and elbow grease. I'm gonna throw some before and after pics up a little later today to get some opinions.

RaiderJay is right, a pinstripe remover works perfectly, effortlessly and in seconds, every time. You can find them online or at an auto paint supplier for about $12 or Napa for about $22...

dont use gas..... it will eat the wax and clearcoat.

carb cleaner cant be good either.

 

Any advice on how to use the pinstripe remover? I would try it but am afraid of screwing up the paint.

Someone suggested I use a credit card ever so lightly.


Well my adhesive was wet from the goo gone and the wd-40 recommendations so once i used the credit on it to scrape it up, it worked like a champ. Got to be careful, but you could try it and see if it works for you....worked for me.
