transfer case floor shifter 04 qc
o.k. guys i did a search here, read the owners manual, even my repair manual to no avail. how do you shift into 4wd. sitting in the truck idling in park i can go 2hi to 4hi effertless. but n or 4lo wont budge. i tried in park and neutral and the shifter wont move at all and i dont want to force it. the owner manual says to be moving about 3-5 mph to engage, but if your stuck and cant move how would you find 4lo? sorry about the newbie question but this is the first 4x4 i have ever owned. thanx carl
The idea is to be in 4 wheel drive before you get stuck. But you can shift in to 4 low when stuck in mud or snow by letting the tires move very slowly. the speedo still works when stuck you just aint goin nowhere.
not sure that will work. though i agree you should be in 4 lo BEFORE u get stuck.
it's 4L-N-2H-4H you are supposed to be rolling 3-5 mph to get into 4lo. well, you can't keep those tires rolling when you're stuck cuz as soon as you get off the gas or move up into N on the transfer case they will stop.
If you really have to do this, you're probably going to have to turn the tires a little bit at a time, and keep trying 4L after they have rotated just a bit. not sure that will even work. but really, if you're just worried about snow, you really shouldnt need 4L for anything you don't forsee.
only time i ever tried 4L it just popped right in when i was stopped. seems it might have just been dumb luck.

thanks for all the advise, been driving in buffalo,ny winters for 22 years without 4wd and never had issues. just wanted to make sure all was well with the 4wd system. i bought the truck used at the begining of summer and never tried it. last night on the way to work it was raining so i tried 4hi, no problems until i pulled into a parking space at work and the frontend jumped around a bit. i assume it was working. thanks again, carl p.s. believe it or not it doesn't really snow here 11 months a year.
