2003 ram oil pressure drops to zero
It has 57,000 miles I am very good about changing oil. But I did buuy it used so can't say about previous owner. Last night I was about 100 miles from home I had been driving for about 20 minuetes and my oil pressure dropped to zero and the check engine light came on. I pulled over immediatly and shut it down. I started it back up it was good. Now thinking it is the sending unit. I drove all the rest of the way home with no problem until I was about a block from home the oil pressure dropped again and I got home and parked it. Well this morning I figured I would test it out so I went bowhunting about 20 miles from home. It was fine for the first 15 miles or so than it went to zero again. DANGIT!!! SO I pulled over and shut it down and started it up and it was good. On the way home it was good the whole way until a few blocks from home it started again. SOOOO should I try a new sending unit or could it be the oil pump? Maybe sludge in the oil pan? Or take it in?? I can do some stuff on my own, not dropping the oil pan.
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance
If it's the 4.7 it's known for losing oil pressure due to sludge buildup. Search this section for a rather lengthy thread started by mmstar23 about how he had the same issue and resolved it a couple of months ago...
