just cleaned throttle body
i just cleaned the throttle body...what an easy task..took a whole 20-30 minutes to take off and clean....it was easier to do than take off a tire.....dealer wanted to charge me $149.00 to do it..
she's running great...i had the dealer do the spark plugs @ $160.00 figured $10.00 a plug not too bad of a deal...my time is worth more than that..but they tried to sell me the throttle body cleaning with new gasket(there is no gasket just rubber o-ring)@149.. also fuel rail cleaning @ 129... so did it myself in 30min and put some lucas in tank for the fuel cleaning..

I think I would pay the dealer to do them for $160 too. Changing 8 plugs on my old Dakota took a couple of hours, and this truck has twice that many. Sure, the dealer may charge $60 an hour to install them, but they can have the whole thing done in two hours or less and I can sit back and relax. I enjoy doing work on my truck, but for $160 including parts, I say go for it.

To each his own....I know not everyone likes working on their vehicles while saving money, using better parts and doing the job correctly. Keep in mind a lot of places are shady and are just trying to make money in a crappy economy....dealer or not. Wether that means only changing 8 of the 16 plugs or not changing the "hard to get to" plugs at all.
actually it probably would have taken me 3-4 hours since i have never changed pugs in a car or truck before... not to mention going to the store and buying the right tools to do the job...but your right i like to do my own work to know that it has been done right..maybe next time i will try to tackle it.
yes i have a better than average paying job

Most of the tough stuff has been eliminated through Superior engine management. The tools aren't really expensive, and you have the satisfaction of knowing it was done right, plus you get a better knowledge of what's under the hood and how in simpler terms it works. For instance a serpentine belt--15 - 30 minutes, get a Goodyear Gatorback and you're done for several years---get the cheap one as is sold at the shade mechanic, every year plus possible breakdowns. Plugs--a couple of hours--- oil and filter---20 minutes, there are many more, and if you EVER have a question----there are plenty of guys here that are more than willing to walk you through it.
