Am i missing something here?
i worked out the math and you are running at or around 27.75mph?

if ogr =rear gear (4.56) X Tranny gear (4 or 5)
(im not up on overdrive gearing on the 4.7)
so 4.56 X 4= 18.24 or 4.56 X 5= 22.8

Now if (Speed X OGR X 336)/ Tire height=RPM
Then in set up for your answer
it would be
(Speed X 18.24 X 336)/ 31.5= 5400 Right?
If you solve that it works out to 27.75 MPH

Doing the same for 5
(Speed X 22.8 X 336)/ 31.5=5400
If solved, Speed = 22.2 mph
Right?

Im not sure where I lost you... I think you analyzed to deep into it.

1) Find Overall Gear Ratio
Transmission Gear x Rear Gear = OVERALL GEAR RATIO
.67 x 4.56 = 3.05 <===== OGR = 3.05

2) Find your SPEED @ any RPM using the OGR:
SPEED x OGR x 336 / TIRE HEIGHT = RPM

60MPH x 3.05(OGR) x 336 / 32" (TIRE HEIGHT) = 1921 RPMs

So in a nut shell if your tires are 32" tall and your overdrive is .67 with a 4.56 rear gear... you would be running 60MPH@1921RPMs

I hope this helps. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

The 4.56's theoretically should be able to take you to 160MPH+... And they do a decent job of it... I think if I had more Realistate I could have taken it a bit further. I stopped at approximately 148MPH. With the .75 overdrive they effectively become a 3.42 OGR gear.... With the .67 over drive they effectively become a 3.05 OGR gear....

My point is... In overdrive... You do NOT lose ANY top end what so ever... even with 4.56 gears.

so you did try to top out with both gear sets, and you did actually go faster with the numerically highre gears. my theory checks out. nice.

and damn, with 4.56 gears you still probably need over 400 hp to do 148. hellofa truck you got there.

How often are you planning on driving fast though??? Do you really need to go in the upper 140's in your truck???

100 mph? oh, that's easy. hell yea you can still do that with 4.56 gears.

Just put the gears on already, the only thing that would stop you from going over 100mph would be the limiter but since you removed that you dont have anything to worry about... Put em on and have fun

Once you learn how to weed out the ones who don't know what they are talking about, you will only then know who to listen to and who not to. You will be surprised that some of the most convincing of people on forums haven't a clue as to what they talk about. They are "INTERNET HERO'S" who don't even own a small ratchet set. Only time will expose them to you. But in general, if the majority says one thing... in many cases that will be the case.

4.56 Gears & Detroit True Trac where HANDS DOWN the single best mod done to my 4.7L Quad Cab Ram. I saw an increase in performance both off the line and in fuel economey. I can still average 18-19MPG at 65MPH with my 4.56's.
