Ok DIRTYDOG, You called me on my spelling so now I am going to call you on your reading. In my first post I said I used a screwdriver to listen to different parts of the motor and it is coming from the alternater not the belt. Thanks for your advice. Thanks for the compliment V_SCAPE!I'm not sure what I will do. I don't want the belt to break so I might just go ahead and spring for a new one. Thanks everybody!

Your truck won't blow up if you keep driving it. The worst thing that can happen is it stops charging and your trucks starts to die or the bearings sieze and freeze up which will burn and break your serpentine belt. The auto parts store won't give you any less for a "fried" alternator than they will for a good one.

Are you sure it's just not your belt making that noise? Did you get a mechanics ear or put your ear against a screwdriver to isolate the sound right off the alternator casing?
They cross reference the # on the bearing for something they have. It works out ok. My rx7 tensioner pulley was like 80 bucks but I pressed the old bearing out gave oreillys the # and they sent me a new bearing. Pressed it in cost me 5 bucks and was better than new

Default same problem

I am having the same problem as Bear.I have a 2003 5.7l. I have the whining that continues with higher RPMs. I recently replaced the idler pulley and belt. Now I the belt keeps breaking not in half but just a small strip the length of the belt, after that piece breaks there are no other problems other than the whining and the power steering gets rough when I first start the truck. I have recently taking the truck to get a new power steering pump. They replaced the rack and power steering pump that is when everything seemed to go to hell. Any help would be appreciated.

If your belt is shredding or breaking, then bearings are either becoming seized or are already seized. I would take your belt off and spin every pulley. All should spin relatively freely other than the crank. I'm gonna guess it's your A/C pump.
