4 high vs 4 low
4 high basically just engages your front wheels and does not reduce your gearing. you'd use this on slippery roads, mild off-road use, sand.
4-low uses a reducer to keep speed low and to give extra power to the wheels. heavy short distance towing (not on the road), harder off-road.
i very rarely use 4-low in this truck. with my last one that was built for rock crawling i used 4-low anytime i'd go off-road as the trails were quite difficult and you needed that finesse.

The only time I have ever used 4-low was going down an icy hill so I wouldn't have to hit the brakes. The truck literally coasts only about 5mph on a super steep down grade. Saves the sliding from hitting your brakes. 4-low is for short distances and you want to minimize wheel turns on any pavement. short straight shots on the road and never above 20mph
4-hi, I use quite regularly on snow covered roads. You can safely drive the truck up to 100mph if you really wanted to in 4-hi. But obviously if you are using 4-hi is because lack of traction. You can use 4-hi anytime for offroad use regardless of weather. Soft ground will let loose and allow the tires to break free as needed. You need 4 even worn tires of the same size and brand for 4wd to operate properly and efficiently as all 4 wheels are rotationg at the exact amount
