Default Quick Exhaust Question

Hey guys I currently have a flowmaster 50 series DOR muffler on my truck. I am looking at re-doing my exhaust system. I am adding a CAI, gibson headers, free-flow cats, and probably a new muffler. Obviously the magnaflow is going to flow alot better than the Flowmaster, but what about sound. With all of those additions along with a 5x8 (the shorter of the 2 5x8 mufflers) magnaflow I was just wondering how it would sound compared to the 50series on all my stock stuff.

I have a SI/DO magnaflow on mine and i like it. I know you're talking about apples and oranges between what you are doing and what i have. Being magnaflow my guess would be "you cant go wrong"

yea, i'd take a magnaflow over a FM any day, for sound and performance.

50 series is a relatively quiet muffler, the same is true for a magnaflow. but it's going to get a bit louder with the headers and such, so a bigger muffler might be in order if you don't want the system to get louder.

Oh I was hoping that it would be louder. I think that the shorter of the two 5x8's will produce a really loud/deep rumble. I have no problem with a little more noise. After all I am looking at 35x13.5x18 MT MTZ's and I can always turn the radio up a little bit more. lol But I haven't heard a magnaflow in sound. Is it a deeper sound than the flowmasters?

The Magnaflow is going to be a bit quieter than the FM 50. I've got a CIA, LT Headers and a FM 50 (which I am waiting to rust out a little so I can replace it). The 50 sounds really good and I got it less than a month after buying my truck new in '04 because it was "made for the Hemi", but although it sounds pretty good, it doesn't "flow" worth a crap, probably even worse than the stock muffler.
You'll get really good performance with the Magnaflow though. Personally, I am going to weld in a Cherry Bomb Vortex when I get around to replacing my FM 50...

Hammer I am just wondering how that vortex is going to flow compared to the magnaflow 5x8 and FM50? I take it that you have put some research into it. Would you mind englightening me on the topic?
