Default New guy with an Odd "whining" noise

Hey all,

This is my first post, however I have been visiting this forum for a little over a year now, just getting information and using the resources.

Not new to dodge currently have an 04 Ram 1500 QC, with Flowmaster Exhaust, K&N intake, aux lights, Zeon LTZ 20" tires, 2 10" subs, Sirius radio, tint, cranked up torsion bars, and other odd's and ends. I will get some pics up asap. My other vehicle is an 03 Stratus R/T 5 speed, with an intake, tint, Cooper Zeon's, and a system.

Anyways, here's the real point of my post, My ram for a while now, has made an ackward noise under acceleration. I've read all the posts about the power steering troubles, however I dont think the problems are related. Up untill any speed I can reach, theres a whining noise, that sounds like its coming from the passenger side in the engine compartment, Alot of people are probably thinking its my intake, but it did it before I installed my K&N system. Has anyone else expierenced this? It doesent seem to be causing any trouble .. other then anyone who gets in my truck, alwayyyyys asks "whats that noise" Any help would be great... I've been thinking it could be the alt... just because it whines when im on the gas.. as soon as i let off it stops.. I could be way off... thats why I'm asking. Plus, I see no reason to get the alt rebuilt or get a new one, if it is really causing no problems...

Thanks!

James

P.S. I will get some pics up asap.

just had this problem last week! Whining noise coming from the passenger side. My alt was charging so I didn't see repacing that so I started looking at the pullys, 2 Idlers and 1 tentioner. Turns out that the bottom Idler was bad. Cost about 20.00 to replace. But come to find out when I replaced that,it got quiet enough I could hear the Alt! Bearings starting to go in it. So I need an alt soon but the whining noise was definatly the Idler pully. Just take your belt loose and spin them one at the time with your hand and listen. Hope this helps

Great, thanks so much for the help man. Did it make a pretty big difference? I mean the whining noise on mine is really pretty loud. I am gonna run out this afternoon and see what I come up with. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again!

Oh yeah! When I replaced the Idler pulley it was very noticable that the whining was gone. You could hear the pulley in the truck going down the road but you can't hear the alt. unless you raise the hood. Good luck!
