Holy crap. That a big *** dent man. I have seen kids where I grew up put hollow blocks in paper bags and leave them in the middle of the street. People thinking its just a bag, run it over and do some serious damage. I'm talking about cars that ride low to the ground, not like our high trucks. How fast were you going?

I was going about 70-75mph it was late on two lane road just outside the city limits. The Insurance company called me back and said they were not going to total it. So I am getting a new frame.. I just hope this turns out alright and not ending up being pos truck.

That's not true. If you accept a check and endorse the back, many insurance companies will consider that an acceptance of you using the money to repair your vehicle. Read the fine print. Also, it varies from state to state. My insurance company REQUIRED an inspection after the work was done on my old Dakota to prove I used the money to fix it.

Here in "Jersey", there is no requirement you get the vehicle fixed, the insurance payment is for your loss. The the issue is with the lien holder. The bank or finance company that provided the loan is named as an additional insured. They require the vehicle be fixed or the loan can be considered in default.

Have you gotten a quote on the parts and labor?

Usually the cutoff is 75% of the value of the truck; even if the truck was $30,000 I'd be surprised that a frame-off rebuild with new parts would come in at under $22,000.

Then again, body work is way more time consuming than parts replacement.

DAMN! That thing's welded in! Looks like you're going to get a new truck!!! I really can't see it being cheaper to re frame it then total it but then I'm not from the US so I'm probably wrong.

Can you get sump guards for these things? Not that I abuse my truck or take it off road or anything!

They quoted the frame at 9000.00 plus 38hr labor at 90hr. and they paid me 2200.00 for the exhaust and tranny pan. Also they said they would get a new frame off the line that comes on the 2009 since its the same frame.
