Exhaust and Hp question.....
I posted this in the D section, but I figured it was relevant enough to post it in the Ram section also, plus there seems to be a little more activity in this section.......
I'm getting a 40series put on the D tomorrow, looking forward to it (mainly because its making the wife happy, but Im excited too). I know theres a 10hp difference b/t the hemi-D's and the hemi-rams, mainly due to the exhaust setup, correct? Im assuming this is why the D is the "quietest hemi ever made". Well, with the HUGE main muffler and the resonator/muffler at the tailpipe gone, will this make up for the 10hp loss, or is the restriction coming from elsewhere?
Im not totally concerned with any hp gain, as there is usually very very minimal with just a muffler add-on. I was just wondering where the hp was lost between the D and Ram.

Possibly, The mufflers put onto vehicles from factory have a restriction of both noise and flow obviously (most likely emissions influenced). But the Flowmasters will help in the flow characteristic. You may just gain that 10 back, not gain the entire 10 or gain more than that supposed 10 hp loss between the two.

Nope, try again. Most Flowmasters actually flow worse than most stock mufflers due to the chambered set-up. Flowmaster is strictly on noise compliance and not flow charts. Their websit even proves this as well as many, many dyno charts showing that Flowmasters are all sound and little if no performance improvements.

i remember seing something, maybe a commercial but it said the chambered design helped pull the exhaust from the engine seing a 10HP increse just in a muffler swap with no duals...i love the sound of my 40 but i would like to have the performance rather than the sound...help with my MPG's!! does the aero sound more like the FM? dont like magnaflow, had it on my ford and the sound cuts out after 3500 RPM.. just my .02

If you're going to go Flowmaster, you gotta go Super 44. It's still got the nice aggressive Flowmaster sound, but it's not loud enough to **** of the neighbors, and it flows better than any other FM muffler. I won't make any power claims on my 44s, but I will say that the engine is running smoother with the 44s than my old muffler.
