because the factory alarms while they are decent are nothing in comparison to an aftermarket. factory alarms do not have shock sensors, no glass break sensors, they really only have doorpin sensors that is it. that is to say if someone was to open the door of your truck while the alarm was armed it would set it off.

on an aftermarket setup you will get doorpin, shock sensor, glass break, and even more if you want, field disturbance radar, tilt sensors, back up batteries, two way remotes that page you if the alarm is set off. as well as remote start capabilities.

auto arm is in the alarms programming can be turned off and on.

You don't need to know anything about the door lock wiring as Ben D. has described. I never touched anything other than 8 or 9 wires that were all under the steering column easily accessible! That's why the 08's are so easy! The bypass module that I bought from AutoAlarmPro is all integrated and actually can be hooked up the the internet for updates if you decide to pull it out and install it into another vehicle! I thought I was missing something because I didn't touch any door lock wires or dome light wires..etc.. It's all integrated into the bypass unit with the remote starter, that's why I said there no extra wires to hook up for the alarm feature! No key is lost either, you just need 2 factory original programmed keys to program the bypass module. It's the same bypass as Ben speaks of. xk532

Factory alarm is a Passive anti-theft system. The alarm only sounds when the door is open, not when someone hits your truck or breaks your windshield. Lots of people hit other cars pulling into parking spots or backing out. Factory alarms will never go off. If someone breaks your window and climbs in through the door without ever opening the door, they can steal anything they want and your alarm will never go off. Factory alarms don't work on a sensor. they can also steal your vehicle and it will never go off!

All features can be turned off after the alarm is installed. Heck, my alarm can start my truck if the temp gets below a certain point from which I determine like -5* or -15* and it will start. Perfect for deisel trucks!. I can also program it to start at 7:18am every morning if I want it to! I can have the parking lights flash or not or not have the horn sound when I hit the lock/unlock button. You can literally program it how ever you want it. That's ofcourse if it has all the functions as I stated, but what ever functions it has are able to be changed to your preferences

exaclty. i was merely describing what would need to be done to the truck if you did not purchase the bypass unit that will integrate into the factory computer. certain bypasses are universal and only will get you past the transponder which is the chipped key. those are slightly older and make newer cars harder because you in essence have to do everything that a more complicated bypass does with one or two wires with much much more.
